Our Children's AWANA club meets most Tuesdays during the school year from 4:30 to 6:00 PM.
A typical week includes a Bible lesson for all the children; handbook time in the individual classes; a snack and games. Children earn awards for their accomplishments in their handbooks; these are handed out weekly, in addition to the final meeting of the year when we have our AWANA Awards Night.
The class for preschool children is called Cubbies; Sparks is for children in K-2nd grades; and TnT is for 3rd-6th graders.
We also provide Trek, the AWANA Club for grades 7-9.
Teens & Twenties Bible Club
We meet on most Mondays throughout the year, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. This club is designed for young people in high school through college ages.
We usually begin the weekly meetings with an activity time. This is followed by a good meal prepared and served at the church; followed by a time of Bible study. We currently are studying the Word of God to find answers to questions submitted by the young people.
We plan regular activities; our recent outings have included bowling & pizza; a trip to a Phoenix-area water park; a Diamondbacks baseball game; the Arizona State Fair; and our annual Christmas party.
All young people in their teens and twenties are invited to join us!
Ladies' Bible Study
The Ladies Bible Study is held on Tuesdays, from 10 to 12 in Cooley Hall and is led by Terri Grazor. It is not only our privilege as a group of women to sit at the feet of Jesus but also to practice all the "one-anothers" that are commanded in God's Word. The goal is not just to gain head knowledge but to become like Jesus.
Presently we are studying Women Who Met the Master authored by Carolyn Culver. These lessons focus on Jesus' own personal interactions with women of His day. We are learning details of each individual account but more importantly we are learning more about the Man these women encountered; and He is amazing!
We are also involved in ministries such as "Christmas baskets for shut-ins" and various encouragements to our many missionary ladies.
Each month we have a fellowship luncheon at a local restaurant.
You are warmly invited to stop by and see if this Ladies' Study would be a good fit for you!
Ladies Only Sunday School
The ladies of Open Door Baptist Church have the privilege of choosing one of two adult Sunday School classes: (1) the one held in the church sanctuary for both men and women, and (2) the ladies-only one that meets each Sunday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 AM in the classroom opposite Pastor’s office in Cooley Hall.
Ladies, whether you are in high school or have reached your retirement years (or any age in-between), you are cordially invited to join our ladies-only Sunday School class. This is an open-discussion type of class and participation is not only welcomed, but encouraged. Our ultimate goal through our studies of the Scriptures is to develop godly characteristics (Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect – Matthew 5:48) as we strive to be conformed to the image of Jesus Christ (Romans 8:29). We learn and grow together through our shared Christian experiences, as well as from the inspired Word. Our lessons are broken up into four quarters each year; lessons come from both the Old and the New Testaments. At the beginning of each quarter, participants are furnished with a schedule of the Biblical passages which will be studied each Sunday so that they may acquaint themselves with the lesson prior to class time.
O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him (Psalm 34:8).
Men's Prayer Breakfast
Men and boys of all ages typically meet on the third Saturday of the month for breakfast and a time of fellowship, Bible study, and prayer. We always begin in Cooley Hall at 8:00 AM; some months, we eat at the church before our time in God's Word and in prayer; other months, we study the Word and pray together first, then go to a local restaurant for the meal.
The Audio-Video Team
The sound room at Open Door Baptist Church is fully equipped to produce CDs and DVDs of each service. These are available at no cost upon request. Just notify Jim Wenger with the date and time of service wanted.
Adult Sunday School
Ed and Donna came to us from Mountain View Baptist Church where Ed served as a pastor for over 10 years.
He retired from pastoral ministry but says that God’s work is never finished and he will continue to serve here at Open Door wherever needed.
He is a veteran who served 20 years in the Air Force from which he retired Sept. '85, then worked as a letter carrier in Tucson, Arizona for 13 years.
He served the Lord as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher at 22nd Street Baptist Church in Tucson, associate Pastor at Robert Road Baptist Church (where he was ordained into the pastoral ministry) and as a deacon at Bethel Baptist Church.
Wanda is our librarian and keeps the church library well organized. The library is stocked with a wide variety of reading material and also some videos.
